There’s a whole lot of air in the instrumentation of the trio Spielzeug—bass clarinet, trombone, and accordion! On this CD, classics of contemporary music by Christian Wolff, Gérard Grisey, and Toshio Hosokawa are juxtaposed with new works by Héctor Moro and Philemon Mukarno.
Moro’s composition is presented here as a world premiere recording, while Philemon Mukarno’s Farah was commissioned by the Performing Arts Fund specifically for Trio Spielzeug and is also recorded for the first time. Even Toshio Hosokawa’s now-classic piece In die Tiefe der Zeit, which exists in numerous instrumental versions, has never before been recorded in this particular arrangement for accordion and (bass) clarinet!
