This portrait CD of composer Miro Dobrowolny presents a selection of works composed between 1996 and 2011.
Miro Dobrowolny, born 1959 in Zagreb (Croatia), studied violin, composition, and musicology in Duisburg, Düsseldorf, and Cologne. In 1986, he founded the ART Ensemble NRW, which has performed regularly both in Germany and abroad under his direction.
For Dobrowolny, composition, improvisation, and interpretation form a “triad” that shapes his compositional style. His music often explores linear development and builds bridges to extramusical themes—for example, his work includes compositional reflections on the sounds and traditions of his Croatian homeland.
The pieces BRIDGES, Chamber Symphony for 9 Instruments, and Epilogue for chamber orchestra and sound props are featured here as live recordings from their world premiere on June 8th 2011, at the Tonhalle Düsseldorf. The performers are the ART Ensemble NRW and the Cantus Ensemble from Zagreb, Croatia.
