Stefan Heucke’s cycle Heimat, Op. 49, was composed in 2006/07 as a commissioned work by the GWK Society for the Promotion of Westphalian Cultural Work, inspired by the piano-accordion duo Tobias Bredohl and Marko Kassl—whom the piece is dedicated to.
Heimat was conceived through Heucke’s deep engagement with Leoš Janáček’s piano cycle On an Overgrown Path, which Heucke also arranged for piano and accordion.
The theme of “home” (Heimat) had long stirred Heucke’s imagination. The connection to Janáček’s cycle ultimately gave shape and voice to his musical journey, as Janáček’s evocative work traces the overgrown, winding paths of childhood, youth, and belonging.
This program CD presents the world premiere recordings of both cycles.
The scores for these works have been published by Augemus Musikverlag in collaboration with the performers.
