This album by the ensemble Black Pencil features compositions centered around landscapes and landscape artworks. Four Land Art monuments in Flevoland inspired four composers to create new works for Black Pencil:
Calliope Tsoupaki composed a piece for Marinus Boezem’s Green Cathedral, Aart Strootman wrote for Richard Serra’s Sea Level, Yannis Kyriakides for Robert Morris’s Observatory, and finally Meric Artac for Piet Slegers’s Earth Sea(Aardzee).
Additionally, the album includes works inspired by the city of Almere and the former island of Schokland.
